Cyprus - Sewerage
In 1992, the construction of a central sewerage system began and all the main
towns and tourist areas now have an efficient mains sewerage system.
Nevertheless, in many parts of Cyprus, especially rural areas, septic tanks are
used for the disposal of domestic sewage. If your property has a septic tank,
this can create unpleasant smells and even become blocked in summer, especially
it the property is fully occupied.
If you have a septic tank, you should use enzyme bio-digesters and employ
bleach and drain un-blockers sparingly, as they kill the friendly bacteria that
break down the waste and prevent nasty smells.
