Cyprus - Flowers
Cyclamen - Pink and white Cyprus cyclamen (Cyclamen cyprium) flower in
woodland in autumn.
Anemones - Pink and red anemones or "windflowers" bloom as late as
December.
Giant Orchids - Growing up to 1 m 13 ft 1 high, the giant orchid (barlia
robertiana) is spectacular
Narcissus- White and and yellow narcissi, relatives of the
daffodil, are brought into bloom by the first autumn showers.
Grape Hyacinth - With its bunches of tiny blue globes, the grape
hyacinth (musacri parviflorum) is another autumn blossom.
Cyprus Tulip - Found only in Cyprus, this dark-red tulip (tulipa
cypria) grows wild in the wastes of the Akamas Peninsula.
Lefkara Vetch - Unique to Cyprus, this broad-leafed flower (astragalus
macrocarpus lefkarensis) is found only in the wooded hills around Lefkara.
Cardoon - With its glossy purple crown and spiky leaves, this regal
relative of the humble thistle was valued as a food source in hard times.
Gladioli - Great swaths of three leaved gladioli (gladiolus triphyllus)
come into vivid flower in early April.
Giant Fennel - This towering umbilifer with a greenish-yellow
crown provides the aniseed flavouring for ouzo.
