Cyprus - Solar Energy Cyprus is committed to renewable energy sources, as the country is almost entirely dependent on imported energy products. The one energy source that Cyprus has in abundance is sun and harnessing this energy has proved very successful. More than 90 per cent of households and hotels on the island use solar energy to produce hot water. Even in the winter, most days are sunny enough to provide warm water, although it's advisable to have an immersion beater as a back-up. There are around ten major manufacturers of solar water-heating systems in Cyprus.   The cost of installing a system in an average house is around CY�1,400, which can he recouped in savings on electricity in around four years.
