With its blissful golden sandy beaches lapped by the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean it is little wonder that Protaras is getting bigger all the time – more and more visitors are coming here every year. The most famous of all the beaches in Protaras are both Fig Tree Bay and next door Flamingo Bay. The resort itself spreads over 10 miles of coastline, most of it fringed by stunning bays and little idyllic coves. Protaras is a modern, purpose-built resort, popular with watersports fans of all kinds, Watersports and scuba-diving being available all along the sands, although generally, the pace of life in Protaras is one of unbroken relaxation and tranquillity. Equally calm but growing is the nightlife. Restaurants offer international and local food and the few discos are also popular with locals. There are plenty of bars, tavernas and choices of eateries around the area, with a vast choice of international cuisine. Why not explore the area around Protaras and nearby Paralimini, browse around the wonderful shops, visit a medieval monastery, churches in the surrounding villages, stop for a drink or meal at a local taverna before returning to your Villa or Apartment in Protaras, for your choice of evening entertainment or that simple al fresco dining at your own ‘home in the sun’. Protaras - The resort of Protaras is about 45 minutes east of Larnaca airport and has grown over the last 20 years, from a simple fishing village into a superb resort for holidaymakers. It is one of the most picturesque parts of the island of Cyprus.
SPORTS AND RECREATION Waterworld Waterpark, Ayia Napa - This is the largest themed Waterpark in Europe, offering a huge selection of water slides and amenities. Don’t miss out on this fabulous day out for all the family. If you're in Cyprus or anywhere nearby, this award-winning park deserves a visit. Water sports – This is one of the best areas on the island for fabulous watersports. Take part in paragliding, water skiing, hire a speedboat, jet ski’s, even try out a flying fish!! The list is endless and so are the fantastic beaches with watersport facilities. Bungee Jumping – for the adventurous tourists in Cyprus, bungee jumping is available in Ayia Napa. Golfing - Cyprus is fast becoming a favourite with many golfing travellers due to an improvement in facilities and, of course, its superb all-year round climate. There are several golf schools, golf development classes and academies, in many locations in Cyprus to help you improve your game. It is rumoured that there are several ‘new’ top quality golf courses to be built on the eastern coast of Cyprus – between Larnaca and Protaras. Go-karting - There are many go- karting centres in Cyprus. Most are open seven days a week, an excellent one being located at Ayia Napa, next door to the Waterpark. Diving - Warm seas, clear water and year-round sunshine ensure that diving in Cyprus remains a popular pastime. The varied nature of the dive sites as well as the lack of tides and currents means that both beginners and more experienced divers can enjoy the experience. There's plenty of underwater life and a huge variety of fish. Skiing and Snowboarding: Troodos Mountains – Experience Cyprus in the winter months, January to March. There is fantastic skiing and snowboarding on Mount Olympus, in the beautiful Troodos Mountains.
Fishing – Cyprus has many lakes and dams for both fly and course fishing, and of course, not forgetting sea fishing, which you do almost anywhere along the coast. Most lakes are subject to a fishing permit, which is needed before you can do this. These are relatively inexpensive and can be purchased from most fishing and sports shops.
