A long sand and pebble beach stretches eastwards from Chrysochou Bay, a 15 minute walk from the centre of the town. There are less crowded stretches of sand and shingle to the west of the town.

The Akamas region is southern Cyprus's last and least developed frontier - a region of spectacular, rugged scenery, sandy coves where turtles nest and dolphins occasionally frolic, clear water, seaside villages and hillsides covered with thick woodland where the last flocks of wild moufflon roam, ancient Stone Age dwellings, remnants of Byzantine and Classical settlements and starkly beautiful sea cliffs on the westernmost extremity of the island.
